What the hell am I doing here?

Nearly 3 months have past, and I still haven't found a way to meet up with Roy at Arutz 24. Last week, I think I really pissed him off but totally misunderstanding when I could meet him and then not being able to show up at all. This week I get at best 3 hours off, maybe. Scratch meeting this week. Next week? If he hasn't given up on me yet, maybe.
I have a grad school application completed in front of me. Somehow I feel like getting a masters in Israeli hip hop (through sociology? history?) may get me nowhere in life. But who knows, I heard Harvard just endowed their Rick Rubin Chair in Studies of Hip Hop Involving Jews, and they're just waiting for me to get a masters and doctorate so I can teach live via internet from Israel.
It seems like all my friends who've made aliyah either work at IDT (calling AOL customers in the middle of dinner), at bars/restaurants, or doing these madrich jobs that I never want to do again.
On the plus side, I think I've still got that microwave.

Gyro: Meat and Beer
October 2005- April 2006

It finally happened. More than 3 months after we all thought it would. It seems as if me, Mike, Ari, and Cliel really kept Meat and Beer (officially called "Gyro") in business. And now with 3 of us gone, and my no longer living down the street, Meat and Beer couldn't make it. I assumed the worst during Pesach, when the place was ripped apart, but so was Burger's Bar, so I was hoping they were just doing rennovations. Alas, I returned yesterday, to celebrate my first time back to Emek Refaim since the end of Pesach, and Meat and Beer was still under construction. A worker at Burger's Bar delivered the sad news. Meat and Beer is not underconstruction. Meat and Beer has passed to Olam HaBa, leaving the next restaurateur to open up in the sorry building. Godspeed, my friend. I will never forget the deliciousness of your schwarma, barbecue sauce, olive tapenade and sauteed mushrooms on a toasted giabetta. Thanks for the memories, the free fries, and the unnecessary weight gain. We'll miss you.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Meat and Beer is asking for donations to be made to Falafel Adir and Joy Express, in the hopes that they allow me to order bread, sauces and spreads at JE and throw in schwarma from Adir.

Avadim Hayinu

This year we are here
next year we're in Israel
(translated myself)

This year we are slaves,
next year we are free people.
(or only free men?)

I never imagined last year that the first stanza of that haiku (which I knew would be true) would actually make the second stanza totally opposite. Now that I'm in Israel, and my family misses me, they've decided I should come back for future seders. Take that L'Shanah HaBah B'Yerushalayim.

L'Shana HaBa
B'My Aunt and Uncle's
Far Away from Here

Avadim Ani
And the Staff that Works with Me
After Sfira, Free

By the Way, I don't
Mind the Cats, They're Better
Than the People Here.

L'Shana HaBa
B'Yrushalayim, Only
If I Find a Job.

Chag Sameach to All
And Happy Easter To My
One Goyish Reader.

The Moment You've All Been Waiting For

So I apparently still have this thing. And I'm gonna let you, the reader, choose the topic of my next post. Your choices are the received text messages from the previous owner of my Ramah rental phone (including an excited "I just heard that Ariel Sharone [sic] is dead! Moshiach is coming!), my take on elections (just when I thought Israel had gotten past electing heroes of the War of Independence, the Pensioneers took 7 seats), my adventures with women (they're all between 15 and 17 years old), or a series of Haikus. Please place your vote in the comments section of this post.
Much love,
